Tapestry of Health: Willow Bark

Steel, laminated glass, and kiln-formed glass, 18’x14’x4”
2019

This lobby sculpture for the Sutter Van Ness Campus Medical Office Building in San Francisco, California, brings a fresh perspective to the use of Willow Bark as a healing medicine from ancient practices to today. The imagery draws upon modern microscope imaging of willow bark at various magnifications rendered with both traditional hand and digital artistic techniques, to tell the story of willow bark of past, present, and future.
